Still getting better… in Arizona.

Thursday August 30 2007

I’m just about fully recovered. This morning Namju and I woke up at 4:00 am to drive to Phoenix to see Mr. Weber. (4:00 am from Santa Barbara gets us through LA traffic and in San Bernadino by 7:00 am.)

I sat down to make reeds today, only to realize that I haven’t played oboe since Sunday morning when I made two final reeds for Patty. That means I haven’t played in 4 days. That means I’ve lost the feeling in my mouth of what a good reed is supposed to taste like! Oh dear.  Great timing to meet up with Mr. Weber.

Things to do with Mr. Weber

  1. Get one of my Graf machines fixed
  2. Get a plastic disk made to see if that will fix the EH pitch problem
  3. Get my oboe “checked”
  4. Get my other two gouging machines “checked”
  5. Make a copy of the Rosenblatt English Horn Tip
  6. Discuss Interview project
  7. Have him gouge me my own EH tube cane (since I don’t have an EH gouger)

Sound busy enough?

Cooper,

Glad you are recovered and back into your trip.

Would you please ask Mr. Weber if he will be able to supply his wonderful reed making book again.  I know a few people clammoring for it…

Perhaps suggest making it available in PDF format?  Or perhaps better, adding that and his VCR tape demo to a single DVD…

Hope to see you in CO and travel safely.

Hey Cooper -

Just stumbled across your website.  It’s great!  I just saw David last week and he did some amazing things to help pitch on the right hand notes of my oboe.  He’s a great resource.  I’m sure you will love what adjustments he makes to the instrument.  Have fun in Phoenix!

Well, Coops….

Sorry you got sick and itch and the rest…but I had to laugh…you make it all sound so exciting and almost fun!

I just got back from a 6 day trip, most of it to Jeju-do.  There were three of us, Frank (Korean), John (Korean American), Me (American).  We didn’t have much of a plan at all.  Things usually work just as well without one as with one I have decided.  After all “no expectations—no frustrations.”
